The 2019 sculpture is well underway, but plans for the 2020 art piece are just being released. The idea for the sculptures came about back in the 70s to honor the country’s 200th birthday. Since then, the project has fallen by the wayside, but Art Vision Alpena has been committed to bringing more of these creative pieces to town. That’s why they’re investing in a local artist – to entice residents and tourists to get out and enjoy Alpena’s nature and art scene.Art Vision Alpena member, August Matuzak says, “Alpena has a lot of tourism, and we’re constantly trying to improve upon the visitor experience, and I think the sculptures do that, in that Alpena is such a beautiful town, but we’ve also got that beauty that can be interspersed with great art.”A reception will be held on Mar. 13 at the Thunder Bay Arts Gallery if you want more insight into the sculptures going up in Alpena. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet the artist of the 2020 sculpture going up in Washington Park.Art Vision Alpena is still collecting money to continue their work, but they can’t do it without your help. If you would like to donate, you can send funds to the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan and ask to donate to the Art Vision Alpena fund.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThis Tags: Art, Art Vision Alpena, bi-path trail, sculpturesContinue ReadingPrevious Reel Fun Ice Fishing Tournament to take place on Grand Lake this weekendNext A Mikado man dies in roll over crashlast_img
