Weather advisory: A tropical wave is affecting the island.

first_imgPhoto credit: amild-us-blogspot.comWeather Outlook for Dominica and the Lesser Antilles, Issued: 12:00 PM on Monday, August 15, 2011Showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave will continue to affect Dominica and the rest of the Lesser Antilles this afternoon and tonight.  Most of the convection associated with this wave will move over the central and southern portion of the island chain during the next 24 hours as the wave moves westwards at 10 to 15 mph.Residents in areas prone to landslides and flooding are advised to be vigilant as the wave makes its way through the island chain. Sea conditions are expected to remain normal today with a slight increase in swells along the eastern coast by tomorrow.A broad area of low pressure is located about 650 miles north of the Northern Leeward Islands. Over the past hours showers and thunderstorms associated with this system has diminished greatly.  As a result there is a low chance of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it continues to move north northwestwards at 15 to 20 mph.We will continue to monitor the progress of these systems and keep you updated.Tropical Storm Gert which formed yesterday is presently located about 155 miles east south east of Bermuda.  Gert poses no threat to Dominica at this time.Dominica Meterological Service Tweet Sharing is caring!
