  • David Gilmour Will Play Pompeii Stadium, 45 Years After Acclaimed Pink Floyd Concert Film

first_imgDavid Gilmour has announced a pair of shows added onto his summer tour to be played at Italy’s Pompeii Amphitheatre, the same site Pink Floyd shot their critically acclaimed concert film, Live at Pompeii, 45 years prior. One significant catch though. This time around, Gilmour will be playing to an audience. As Pink Floyd fans will recall, the band’s 1971 concert film was played before an empty audience. Directed by Adrian Maben over the course of four days, Live at Pompeii featured spellbinding performances of “Echoes” and “One of These Days” from 1971’s Meddle, as well as the title track to 1968’s A Saucerful of Secrets and “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.”Gilmour’s return to Pompeii is scheduled for July 7-8, right smack dab in the middle of a lengthy world tour. • Cody Bellinger has found ‘a happy medium’ in his sophomore season

first_imgBellinger – who hit a 462-foot bomb into the upper deck at Safeco Field on Saturday night — said he hasn’t consciously sacrificed slugging for more hits or walks.“I think when you’re feeling good at the plate, it allows you to do that. When you’re not feeling good, it looks like you’re doing that when you’re not trying to,” he said. “I’m just trying to compete with what I’ve got right now, the feel of it. I wish I could tell you specifically what I’m doing. But I don’t know.”URIAS UPDATEThere are no signs that the Dodgers have accelerated Julio Urias’ rehab. Urias threw 32 pitches in 1-1/3 innings for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Roberts said Sunday that Urias is scheduled to pitch again on Tuesday, after five days’ rest. The affiliate where Urias will pitch has not been decided yet, Roberts said.Urias has made four appearances in games since returning to the mound – two each in the Arizona Summer League and the California League. He has had at least four days’ rest between each appearance.Overall, Urias has allowed four runs on seven hits (including two home runs), a walk and a hit batsman while striking out 10 in 6-1/3 innings. Urias’ fastball velocity has reportedly hit 94 mph.Urias is expected to pitch three innings or approximately 45 pitches in his next outing, Roberts said.“We’ll bring him back when he’s ready,” Roberts said of Urias’ timetable. “Don’t question the head. He just needs to log appearances and I still think we have time. And then we’ll see by the performance. We have time.“He’ll come when he’s ready.”ALSODodgers left-hander Zac Rosscup struck out the side on nine pitches in the ninth inning Sunday. It was the 93rd “immaculate inning” in MLB history. Rosscup is the 87th pitcher to accomplish the feat, the fourth this season. Kenley Jansen did it for the Dodgers in May 2017.UP NEXTCardinals LHP Austin Gomber (3-0, 2.89 ERA) at Dodgers LHP Alex Wood (7-6, 3.51 ERA), Monday, 7:10 p.m., SportsNet LA (where available), MLB Network (out of market only) How Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling topped the baseball podcast empire SEATTLE – Before his sophomore season began, Cody Bellinger didn’t know what he didn’t know. The National League’s reigning Rookie of the Year can now admit it has been more difficult the second time around.“Yeah, definitely,” Bellinger said before Sunday’s game. “I think there was a lot of searching going on in the beginning, trying to get back to what I did last year or trying to find something new. I kind of found a happy medium now.”That medium has been a good fit. After a three-hit game Sunday, Bellinger is batting .441 (26 for 59) in August with a .508 on-base percentage that is the highest in the majors this month (neck and neck with teammate Justin Turner). He has a career-high hitting streak of 12 games and has reached base in 24 of his 28 games since the All-Star break. Even when I don’t feel good (with his swing), I’ve got to use that and compete rather than just give away an at-bat.”There is “a maturing” going on with the 23-year-old Bellinger, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. He has hit 20 home runs this season but his slugging percentage has dropped over 100 points from last season. Realizing that he can be a productive hitter without trying to hit a home run with every swing has been a part of that maturation, Roberts said.“For me, it’s outstanding. I base it on at-bat quality, staying in the strike zone, taking walks,” Roberts said. “I just feel if he can continue to do that, the slug will be there.“He’s struggled more than he’s ever struggled and to come out on the other side is one part of it. And the other part of it is not always just trying to chase slug. I think if you look at the best hitters, the most dangerous hitters in baseball – they get on base, they slug which makes them productive. Just to chase slug, you have to give up something and that’s swinging at balls in the strike zone for the most part.Related Articles “When you struggle and you don’t see that a walk is just as valuable as a hit – we all talk about chasing hits. When you’re chasing hits, that’s a tough strategy. Right now, he’s trying to not make outs.
