Image via: GIS NewsMinister of Carib Affairs Ashton Graneau has extended empathy to the family and friends of Ambassador Dr Charles Corbette; Dominica’s resident ambassador to Cuba who was injured in a vehicular accident in Cuba.Dominica Vibes News reported yesterday that Dr Corbette was involved in a vehicular accident in Cuba and that he was in a critical condition.Mr Graneau confirmed to Dominica Vibes News that Dr Cobette was involved in a vehicular accident, that he is saddened by this news but confident that the medical personals in Cuba will stabilize him.“We got the sad news last night, it seems to have occurred a little earlier on and however we are not privy to all the details yet but what we do know is that he was in a very serious vehicular accident and he has been admitted at one of the top hospitals in Cuba. My empathy goes to the family, I think they must be very saddened by this news and we have to empathize with them and wish that Dr. Corbette will have a speedy recovery. As we all know Cuba is one of the leading countries with regard to health services so we trust that they will do as much as necessary to stabilize him and maybe to revive him”.According to Graneau, “It is sad for all of us in the Carib Territory” considering the tremendous work Dr. Corbette did while employed with the Ministry of Carib Affairs for the last ten years as well as the extensive work he did within the entire community, entire constituency.Mr Graneau noted that it is unfortunate to receive this sad news less than a year since Dr Corbette left the island after he became the resident ambassador to Cuba.“He just left just recently, less than a year to take up his new post as Dominica’s ambassador to Cuba and to get this very sad news I must say it is not very encouraging. The truth is that we would really like to see Dr Corbette get back on his feet; we do not know how long this is going to take but Cuba being the kind of state that it is with high level medical services I believe that they are well able to deal with things like these,” he said.Mr Graneau further stated; “from what I understand he had surgery last night, I have not been able to make contact with anybody and we are not clear what his present situation is in Cuba however the most we can do is wish for him to get back on his feet and our prayers are with the family and the people of the Salybia Constituency”.The minister noted that this is also “a sad day for the government of Dominica” as it involves the countries resident ambassador in Cuba.
